Bluetooth Earbuds or Wired Earbuds?

Whether it is for a run in the park or to enjoy our favourite series on Tablet, the headset seems to be impossible to do without.

 Looking around you, on the subway or the street, you will have the perception of those who prefer to take a corner of privacy with them in the city.

 The earbuds, despite everything, still manage to give us those moments of intimacy that we lose once the front door is closed. But pronouncing the word "headset" means opening a universe in which it is easy to lose orientation.

Whether you are an audio technician, a teenager returning from school or a professional ending a business call, you will have several products on the market that will meet everyone's needs (price, functionality, performance).

But how many earbuds!

Well yes. If already with the earbuds with cable we had our problems to extricate ourselves in this great universe, the advent of the wireless earbuds has certainly not made our life easier. Traditional earbuds, with cable, can be connected to Tablet, PC, Smartphone through the use of the classic 3.5 mm mini-jack or digital connections such as USB for PCsUSB Type-C for smartphones and Lightning for Apple mobile devices. Of this type we can find on the market depending on use:

  • In-ear earbuds: these relate to the type of earbuds that rests on the ear. They are the right compromise between audio quality and footprint.
  • Circumaural Earbuds: the most widespread in the various audio sectors. Characterized by large padded pavilions that completely incorporate the ear. They guarantee total sound insulation.
  • Monitor earbuds: used in the professional field for audio mixing, dubbing, they offer a very faithful reproduction of frequencies.
  • Dj earbuds: designed for DJs, they tend to emphasize the low frequencies.
  • Gaming Earbuds - Used by gaming enthusiasts. They are designed to be comfortable and make the gaming experience engaging. They are equipped with a microphone.

As we have seen for traditional earbuds, even wireless ones can make use of different technologies :

  • Radiofrequency earbuds: with a limited range (up to 100mt) they offer good audio quality but are more subject to interference;
  • Infrared earbuds: very cheap but offer a very limited range;
  • Bluetooth earbuds: Not very cheap; however, they have the advantage of working with computers, smartphones, tablets and other devices without the need for external receivers. They also allow you to control multimedia playback and make calls (as long as they are equipped with a microphone). They have a radius of action much lower than the radiofrequency earbuds but still sufficient. Audio quality is generally good.

How do Bluetooth earbuds work?

Surely the most popular among the wireless family, Bluetooth earbuds use a technology invented by Ericsson in 1994. Bluetooth is a type of wireless transmission that uses the short wave radio band.

Analyzing the characteristics of this technology, we can certainly appreciate its advantages :

  • compatibility with many devices and the wide range of uses (listening to music, talking on the phone, etc.);
  • Less connection interference than wireless or RF (radio frequency) earbuds.

But we can't help but take into account some disadvantages :

  • an older version of Bluetooth can lead to  interference  in transmission;
  • the maximum range is about 10 meters, which may decrease in the presence of load-bearing walls between the devices.

Is Bluetooth harmful?

Surely the choice of a Bluetooth headset could affect the spectrum of radio waves. The published studies on the damage caused by radiation generated by mobile devices (telephones, wi-fi networks, etc.) are not secret. The power used in Bluetooth is too low to damage any biological tissue with the mechanisms we know at the moment. If it were dangerous, it should be in ways no one has ever imagined ”. He concluded his speech by defining Bluetooth technology as a "Wifi Light."

In conclusion, Bluetooth or cable?

Difficult to give a judgment that can satisfy everyone, considering that the choice of a headset is generally a very subjective matter. Consider, for example, the audio (the frequencies to be precise) which is perceived differently by each individual. Not satisfied, the choice can also vary according to one's needs, whether they are purely stylistic: for example, the passion for vintage or the simple interest in a latest-generation instrument.

Simplifying, we could say that the classic wired headphone is for those who want to experience the simple taste of music, without having to worry about a low battery. For audio professionals who can use earbuds that are highly accurate in reproducing frequencies.

If what you are looking for, on the contrary, is a comfortable cap, no more braided wires or around the neck. A headset that allows you to control the audio and answer a phone call with a simple click

A headset that gives you the possibility to completely exclude the outside (whether you are on a train, in front of the TV or a Bangkok market) to offer you a perfect listening experience, here, Bluetooth is what you need.
